You must be aged 19–29, living in the Black Country or Coventry area, claiming Universal Credit, and not in full-time employment or education.
Overview
This is a varied and hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, problem-solving work and wants to build a career in building maintenance. As an Apprentice Maintenance Person at Restful Homes Group, you will be responsible for the upkeep and repair of care home buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff and visitors.
You will develop skills across a broad range of trades and maintenance disciplines, working independently and alongside specialist contractors where required.
Duties
Ensure the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the site, including all building, mechanical and electrical systems, specialist equipment and general fittings and fixtures
Ensure the serviceability of all heating, lighting, plumbing and non-medical equipment, including emergency lighting and fire alarm systems
Conduct regular inspections of the premises and maintain documented records of all preventative maintenance, breakdowns, repairs and alterations
Carry out weekly fire alarm tests and routine checks of wheelchairs, reclining chairs and nursing beds
Develop and implement preventative maintenance programmes in line with company policies and regulatory standards
Organise PAT testing of electrical items in accordance with health and safety requirements
Report major faults likely to incur significant expenditure or require specialist contractor involvement
Supervise works carried out by contractors and authorise day sheets prior to invoice payment
Maintain inventories of all maintenance equipment
Accompany the local fire officer on inspections of the premises
Provide an on-call service for emergency works as required
Work flexibly across multiple care homes to support other maintenance staff and provide holiday cover
