WORKPAYS STAFF TAKE PART IN A VOLUNTEER DAY AT FARESHARE

Last week, Workpays staff from across our ten sites participated in a Volunteer Day for Fareshare Midlands, the region’s largest food redistribution charity.

The organisation wanted to make a difference within the community as part of National Volunteer Week and decided that staff should get involved with a local charity.

The team was involved in the heart of Fareshare’s food re-distribution, helping to improve the daily lives of people facing food poverty. Activities included storing incoming food, assisting the drivers, and packing food orders ready for the community.

Our values include acting as one team and leading with kindness, hence, giving back to the community is very important. Warehouse coordinator, Jeremy Carter, said that volunteer week is a great activity to take part in and helps the charity out massively.

He said: ‘’At the moment, there is a lack of volunteers within the community, so Workpays have helped us out a lot today.

‘’All of the volunteers got stuck in and are contributing to families who may have a low income or are suffering from food poverty. We have so many decent charities that take part, including rehab centers and hostels, and getting orders out to them before the food expires is crucial.

‘’The more volunteers we have, the quicker food gets to people who need it the most.’’

Ellie Millen, Marketing Executive at Workpays, said she thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and found it extremely rewarding.

She stated: ‘’Myself and the rest of the team had a fantastic time at Fareshare Midlands as Jeremy was so helpful and allowed us to help out in all areas of the charity.

‘‘Seeing all of that food being wasted is astonishing the day made me think twice about ever overspending and wasting produce.

‘’The deliveries from local supermarkets including Tesco and Amazon were packed with great food and drink, with plenty of vegetarian and healthy options donated too. I enjoyed being able to take part in giving something back to the local communities that Workpays serve.

‘’I would recommend volunteering at Fareshare Midlands to any other business – it is a fantastic way to bond with the rest of the team whilst doing good in the world.’’
