EXCELLENT ENGLISH: ESOL STUDENTS GAIN VALUABLE Language SKILLS FOR THEIR CAREERS

ESOL students gain valuable life skills in the classroom by improving their English and numeracy abilities for their careers. 

Birsen Gulbeyaz and Maryam Alipor are both students on the ESOL Entry Level 2 course and balance studying around having children. They aim to start a successful career once they improve their English skills, as they can communicate with others more easily. 

Birsen is looking for a career in Child or Social Care and enjoys developing her language skills. The course also offers her flexibility to fit in with her everyday schedule.

She said: ‘’The ESOL course fits around my lifestyle, as I can leave the class early to pick up my son from nursery. I enjoy that I can learn whilst also balancing other commitments.

‘’My English has improved a lot since learning with Workpays, and Iwona is a great tutor. I hope to start a Level 1 college course in Childcare once I have completed my ESOL course.’’

Maryam has also improved her English skills massively since studying in Iwona’s class and enjoys being able to communicate more easily with everyone around her.

She stated: ‘’Since learning more about the English language, I can have conversations with others including my children, which is fantastic.’’

‘’I enjoy the tasks we do in class, including telling the time, writing out my timetable, and practising having practical conversations about accessing transport.

‘’Once I have completed my ESOL Level 2 course, I would like to start my career as a baker, as I am a very good cook. I would like to be able to speak to customers with ease and do something I enjoy.

‘’Iwona has been fantastic in supporting me and helping me grow, and I am very grateful for everything the ESOL course has taught me.’’
